Sri Lankan Visa Photo

When a Sri Lankan Visa Application Asks for a Photograph

A photograph is not requested at every stage of a visit to Sri Lanka. The official ETA information states that the standard online short-visit authorisation does not require photographs. The Department of Immigration and Emigration’s visitor-extension guidance, however, includes an application photograph among the required items. The useful distinction is between obtaining the initial electronic authorisation and extending a stay, rather than assuming that every Sri Lankan visa transaction uses the same upload.

If you need an extension, identify the correct service and follow its current instructions. The department lists the applicant’s photograph together with the passport, return travel and accommodation details for a tourist extension. Prepare a current portrait that provides a recognisable likeness; a screenshot of an ETA approval is not a substitute for the portrait. Use the photo preparation guide, facial expression, background and photo quality guidance to prepare the image, then check whether the selected process requests a digital photograph or prints.

The visa finder can help orient the purpose of travel, while the embassy and consulate directory can locate a mission for applications that require consular assistance. Keep the image associated with the right passport and application, especially if several travellers are extending together. The detailed photo requirements below concern the portrait when one is requested; they do not add a photo requirement to the standard ETA process. A clear photograph supports identification, but the appropriate visa route and evidence for the intended stay still determine which application must be made.
